Volunteer Information

Schools cannot accomplish their missions or reach the needs of every child without the assistance of caring adults. Every volunteer in our school district makes a difference.

Opportunities are limitless to volunteer. We need your help! No task is too small to benefit our students. Ask your child’s teacher or principal how you can help in the school, on field trips and at home.

We are entrusted with caring for the future of our children, and we take this seriously. This is why we screen each volunteer.

What You Need to Know About the Volunteer Application Process

Ferndale School District is using a new volunteer and visitor management system called

Safe Visitor Solutions

Volunteer Application

The volunteer application consists of a basic information form and a background questionnaire. Please read the information thoroughly. To volunteer in our district, complete the online volunteer application. For the safety of our students, volunteer applicants must undergo a Washington State Patrol background check before they can begin their service.

Once the application is complete, you will receive an email confirming completion. This email will contain your electronic SafeVisitor ID Badge. The ID badge will be used to scan in and out of the buildings in our district. Please arrive a few minutes early for your first visit so we can take your photo at the front desk. We will then store your photo and email you a new electronic ID with a photo which can be stored on your phone as an image or in the new Safe Visitor mobile app which can be downloaded to your phone. You will need to present a government issued photo ID for the first visit.

Your FSD volunteer status is good for 1 year from the date of clearance. You will be automatically notified via email when your application is nearing expiration.

*If you do not have valid photo identification, or if you have limited access to email and the Internet, please let us know. For more information, email viridianna.ferreira@ferndalesd.org or call 360-383-9200.

Fingerprinting

Volunteers who work one-on-one with students (with permission from the building administrator) or are attending a field trip, must undergo a federal background check and fingerprinting. Please note: fingerprints are required for all volunteer coaches. To schedule a fingerprinting appointment with the Ferndale School District, please call 360-383-9206. The cost is $60 paid via cash or check. Fingerprints are valid for 2 years.
